Penflow
A quiet place to write your novel.
What it does
A desktop app for novelists
Penflow keeps your book in plain files on your computer. Write your first novel for free, with a free account. It is in private beta and lets writers in quietly, in small waves.
What it will not do
Three things Penflow refuses to do to you
You own your files
If Penflow disappeared tomorrow, your novel would still open anywhere. Autosave and save points keep earlier versions of a scene.
AI is optional
Ask about your story or request a rewrite, and you choose what to apply. It needs Supporter and your own OpenRouter key.
Inside
Four rooms, one writing desk
Write
A reading editor first, with a focus mode that fades the chrome.
Codex
Characters, places and lore. Type @ in your manuscript and your cast appears.
Outline
Chapters become columns and scenes become cards you can move around.
Optional AI
Discuss a scene with context from your manuscript, or proofread a passage.
Pricing
Free to write. $4 a month for the rest.
A free account is required. AI usage is billed separately by OpenRouter, with no Penflow markup.
